Our New Gardener/Horticulturist

Hello members of Marine Drive Golf Club, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself – my name is Alexis, and I am your new gardener at the Golf Club. I originally hail from Toronto, ON and am currently living in sunny White Rock with my almost-two-year old son, and my better half. We enjoy long walks on the beach, and I have a penchant for plants.

I first began my career in Horticulture during summer break after completing the first year of an Arts degree at Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS. I loved the work, and while having trouble deciding on a Major, I continued to work in the landscape industry. I ran a maintenance crew of up to twelve people for three years for a private company outside of Toronto, ON before making my move to White Rock to pursue an education in Horticulture Technology. I have been attending Kwantlen Polytechnic University since 2009 studying Horticulture, and Landscape Design. In 2010, I completed a three month internship in Cuba with five other Canadian students. We helped Cuban Agronomy PhD students in their research efforts on biological pest control measures – our trials were based on both insects and beneficial fungi.

I began working for the City of Surrey in 2010, and in 2012 I was fortunate enough to work as an assistant to the Horticulture Technician for Darts Hill Garden Park in South Surrey.

My passion lies in design, and I look forward to getting to know Marine Drive Golf Club’s garden beds as if they are my own. I am excited to meet the members, and am open to any garden conversation or questions; please feel free to say hello!
