Thanks to nice weather on Monday, April 3rd we were able to accomplish some cultural procedures on the greens. On the six greens that fared pretty well over the winter we aerated with 1/2 inch solid tines, sand top dressed, brushed in and rolled. The remaining 12 greens, plus the putting green which sustained winter damage, were verti-cut, brushed, mowed, sand top dressed and brushed in. The two short game area greens and nursery green were also verti-cut and sand top dressed.
We are trying to encourage the recovery process as much as we can when weather permits, but we still require many more sunny and warmer days to help nurse the greens back to a healthy stand of turf. If the weather cooperates on Tuesday and stays dry, we will add a light layer of sand on the greens. We also had a chance to mow some fairways, green surrounds, tee banks this Monday and will try our hand at some firm areas in the rough on Tuesday.
